Our new South West showcase evening featuring the best talent the Westcountry has to offer. Over the years some of the finest comedians on the UK comedy circuit emerged from the South West including Russell Howard, Stephen Merchant, Bill Bailey and Josh Widdicombe. This showcase highlights the best emerging talent from the current crop of South West comedians.
Headliner: SUZY BENNETT
Headlining the night will be former winner of the prestigious Funny Women Award Suzy Bennett. Suzy burst onto the scene after her appearance on Jimmy Carr's Comedy Idol, where she was hand picked by Jimmy to support him on his Gag Reflex tour. She has since gone from strength to strength with several appearances at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, including being part of the famous 'Comedy Reserve' showcase at the Pleasance Theatre.
Suzy was also chosen as tour support act for Russell Kane on his Smallness shows and Russell Kane and Friends showcases where he described her as a ‘Charm Bomb’. After establishing herself on the UK comedy scene whilst living in London, Suzy has now returned to her home city of Plymouth where she makes regular appearances on BBC Radio Devon.
Featuring: MORGAN REES
Opening the night will be rising star of the UK circuit Morgan Rees. Now living in Bristol, softly spoken Welsh comic Morgan Rees boasts a densely packed arsenal of impressive one-liners and hilarious short stories. In his short career he has appeared on BBC Radio 4 in the prestigious finals of the BBC New Comedy Award, was runner-up in So You Think You’re Funny 2017 and a finalist in Chortle Student Comedy Award. Morgan has also performed as tour support for Fern Brady, Rhys James, Larry Dean and, another Bristol comedy export, Jayde Adams. As well as being a highly sought after live performer Morgan is also a talented comedy writer, writing for shows such as Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 cats.
Compere: TOM GLOVER
Hosting the show will be former British Comedian of the Year finalist Tom Glover. Tom is an experienced compere and hosts several regular gigs across the south west including a month show at the Weymouth Pavilion that has featured the likes of Joe Lycett, Ed Gamble, Romesh Ranganathan and Nina Conti. Based in Devon Tom has established a good local following and, in 2019, took his debut Edinburgh Fringe show, 'A Glover Not A Fighter' on a south west tour performing to sell out crowds across Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
This showcase night will also feature short guest spots from four of the best emerging Bristol based stand up comedians Jessie Nixon, Richard James, Alex Kitson and Jeremy Flynn.
