Seating

Most Comedy Box shows at the Hen & Chicken are cabaret-style with table-seating (see below). Some shows, especially touring shows, may be switched to theatre-style row seating at the request of the performer or to allow increased capacity where necessary.

When a show is theatre-style the seats are unreserved but you will still be guided to your seats by an usher.

TABLE SEATING

When a show at the Hen & Chicken is cabaret-style all tables seat up to six people. We always allocate seating on arrival from the front of the room i.e. backwards from the stage. This makes for a better atmosphere if we are not full and guarantees that front tables are occupied which is crucial for a live comedy show. Not because we want audience members to be "picked on", but because the comedians like to see people's faces and be able to interact.

We allocate tables according to group size and we always try to seat parties together. If your party is smaller than six people then it is very likely that you will be sharing with people you don't know.

LARGE GROUPS: If you want to sit together it is necessary to arrive early. The later you arrive the chances are your group will be split up, although we will do our best to accommodate you.

If you know the size of your group and you want to sit together we must be able to see all of your tickets or web ticket print-out(s) before we allocate you a table or tables. You will not be able to "save" seats or tables for customers in your party who are not present - unless you can produce actual tickets or web tickets on their behalf.

We recommend that you organise your group to arrive in the pub downstairs, distribute the tickets to them if you have booked them yourself, then come to the front desk upstairs when you are ready. If you have booked your tickets online, bring your web ticket to the front desk and we will exchange your web ticket for individual tickets. The sooner you arrive after doors open the better chances you have of sitting together.

The Comedy Box tries to operate a flexible seating allocation system to accommodate different customers' needs. We don’t reserve (or pre-allocate) tables in advance but we will try to seat groups together. On arrival at the venue we will allocate tables according to the size of your group on a first-come-first-served basis. If you are coming to a popular show and you have organised a large group it is in your interests to arrive as early as possible to get the best positioned tables. Late arrivals will be able to get seats but we cannot guarantee to seat your party together.

We reserve the right to refuse admission until the interval if you or your party don't arrive until after the show has started. This is to avoid unnecessary disruption to the show and to other audience members.
