It's a privilege to have someone like Richard Herring playing The Comedy Box. Back in the 90s he was one half of cult comedy duo Lee & Herring (the other half being Stewart Lee) who produced four series for BBC2. That was two series of Fist Of Fun and two of This Morning With Richard Not Judy.
Richard Herring on his own is a prolific producer of annual shows for the Edinburgh Festival, including such gems as Christ On A Bike, The Twelve Tasks Of Hercules Terrace, and Talking Cock. The latter being an out-and-out parody of the Vagina Monologues. More recently he produced Someone Likes Yoghurt where he relentlessly explores the nonsensical implications of having his love for yoghurt questioned by a cashier in his local supermarket.
If Richard Herring has a trademark it is his love of relentless and pedantic sojourns into pointless subjects that most people would leave well alone. If you are the kind of person who enjoys this level of pedantry where the expression "beyond a joke" might seem appropriate then Richard Herring is your man.
In our view Richard Herring is a genius who brings humour to his own obsessive nature and reaches new fantastic depths of self-deprecation.
Herring not only co-wrote all 37 episodes of Time Gentlemen, Please with Al Murray The Pub Landlord, he was also script editor on the third series of Little Britain.
