The Comedy Box, in conjunction with the Tobacco Factory Theatre, have brought together twelve brand new comedy shows heading for this summer's Edinburgh Festival Fringe and all twelve shows will be previewed at the Tobacco Factory for one week in July.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is not only the world's biggest arts festival, it also hosts the largest collection of comedy shows anywhere on the planet, and therefore it is the most important event in the comedy calendar. New comedians are discovered, established comedians consolidate reputations, and veteran comics return to be re-discovered. The Fringe is a high cost, high risk adventure for all participants and getting a show right for the festival is the hardest job of all.
The Edinburgh Preview has become a minor industry all of its own and comedians have been developing their brand new shows since the beginning of the year. The Comedy Box has hand-picked a dozen shows and packaged them as Double Bill Previews - six double bill comedy shows featuring some of the most inventive comedy performers who will be playing the magical Edinburgh Festival this August.
High profile comedians such as RICHARD HERRING, CRAIG CAMPBELL, JEFF GREEN and RHOD GILBERT will be rubbing shoulders with relative newcomers such as sketch comedy group PAPPY'S FUN CLUB, rising Bristol comic and Comedy Box regular compere JOHN ROBINS, and the consummate stand-up of JON RICHARDSON who co-hosts The Russell Howard Show on BBC6 Music.
Tickets for each double bill of comedy are only £8 (or £10 for weekend shows), effectively two shows for the price of one relative to the ticket prices charged during the Fringe Festival. Try at least a couple of shows during the Edinburgh or Bust Comedy Week at the Tobacco Factory Theatre and bear witness to some great comedy before the rest of the world does!
NB. This is the first time that The Comedy Box has attempted an event of this scale and if we are successful we are hoping this could lead to establishing Bristol's first ever comedy festival.
